March 28, 2016  – Nick Hiter has been elected to a two year term as Vice President of the Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association.  Nick will serve a two year term as Vice President, followed by a two year term as the OTBA’s 34th President, and the youngest in the history of the organization.  Nick will be 37 years old when his term starts in 2018.  “It is an absolute honor to be a third generation OTBA board member. My grandfather, Wayne was the first Hiter board member.  My father, Mickey is a second generation board member, who also serves as an executive committee board member, and is also a past President.  It’s an even bigger honor to have been elected as Vice President, as 2015 brought our 78th consecutive year to a close. Today I joined a special bunch of guys, and I have big shoes to fill. Once again my predecessors have laid the groundwork, and I’ll simply follow in their footsteps.” – Nick Hiter

Formed in 1938 by a group of local baseball enthusiasts, the Old Timers organization is one of the oldest such organizations in the United States, celebrating its 79th year of existence in 2016.  During the winter of 1938, a city employee by the name of Harry “War Horse” Rogers decided to have a get-together for everyone in Nashville who wanted to talk baseball. Little did he know that he was starting a tradition that would endure the war years and continue on a yearly basis for the past 78 years.  “When Nick’s name came up as candidate for VP of the OTBA, I and the Executive Committee knew his passion for baseball, his social media savvy and his vast connections in the community made him an excellent choice.” -Russ Pyles, President – Old Timers Baseball Association

The OTBA hosts two major functions per year, an annual banquet and an annual golf tournament.  In the 78 consecutive years that the Old Timers have held their banquet, only twice has there been a postponement.  At the annual banquet each January scholarships are awarded to worthy high school senior baseball players. Over $350,000 has been presented in the past 18 years and we are currently accepting applications for our 2016 honourees.  The OTBA depends on funds raised at our golf tournament to provide scholarships which are presented at our annual banquet each January.  In 2016, the OTBA will host its 19th annual golf tournament.

The Old Timers Creed is “To enjoy fellowship with baseball enthusiasts and to honor and support the great game of baseball at all levels.”
